Our successes:

We are one of the few centres in Poland to perform a one-stage plastic reconstruction of the larynx and trachea. This procedure enables the child to develop properly and do without a tracheostomy tube.

A modern and well-equipped operating room enables us to perform any, even the most complicated surgical procedure. Each year we perform over 1000 surgeries.

The most frequently performed procedures are:

  • removal of the pharyngeal tonsil
  • removal of palatine tonsils
  • tympanic cavity ventilation and drainage
  • tympanoplasty of the middle ear due to acute and chronic inflammatory lesions (cholesteatoma)
  • surgeries performed to improve hearing (reconstruction of the tympanic membrane and ossicular chain)
  • surgeries of paranasal sinuses, including sphenoid sinus with the application of functional endoscopic sinus surgery method (FESS)
  • surgeries performed to improve the patency of the respiratory tract: reconstructive surgery of the deviated nasal septum; surgery of obstructed posterior nares; dilatation of the larynx in case of vocal fold paralysis
  • reconstruction of the larynx and trachea due to stenosis
  • endoscopy of the larynx, trachea or bronchial tubes with the application of flexible and rigid endoscopes
  • removal of foreign bodies from the bronchial tubes and oesophagus
  • surgeries of congenital defects and tumours in the area of the head and neck
  • removal of laryngeal papillomas
  • surgeries of the parotid and submandibular glands
  • treatment of vascular anomalies, including haemangioma in the area of the head and neck

The audiological laboratory of the Upper Silesian Child Health Centre offers a full range of audiological examinations:

  • pure tone audiometry
  • impedance audiometry
  • play audiometry
  • otoacoustic emission
  • brainstem auditory evoked potential (Brainstem Electric Response Audiometry) tested in physiological and pharmacological sleep
  • diagnostics of central hearing loss and auditory neuropathy

The above mentioned examinations enable one to precisely determine the degree and type of hearing loss and to decide on further treatment.
