The Department offers comprehensive rehabilitation services for infants, children and teenagers with various neurological disorders (paresis due to damage to the central or peripheral nervous system – e.g. infantile cerebral palsy, myelomeningocele, spinal muscular atrophy, perinatal brachial plexus palsy, condition after orthopaedic surgeries performed at children with neurological disorders, condition after neurosurgical procedures, condition after multi-organ injuries, etc.), who need comprehensive rehabilitation procedures and provision of 24-hour medical care for the continuation of their treatment.
Admission to the department:
The patients are admitted based on a referral from the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Department of Intensive Care and Neonatal Pathology, Department of Paediatrics and Neurology of Developmental Age, Department of Neurosurgery, Department of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery, Department of Surgery and Urology or Neurology Outpatient Clinic, Neonatal Pathology Outpatient Clinic, Neurosurgery Outpatient Clinic, Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery Outpatient Clinic, Surgery and Rehabilitation Outpatient Clinic.
Rehabilitation of the patients:
Rehabilitation takes from 3 up to 12 or 16 weeks in the calendar year. The patient can stay in hospital several times a year, however the total stay must not exceed 120 days (the cost of the stay is covered by the National Health Fund).
The children are treated with neurophysiological methods, including NDT Bobath, Vojta method or PNF techniques. The treatment is conducted by registered physiotherapists. Kinesitherapy (motor rehabilitation) is conducted on an individual basis only, according to the requirements of the National Health Fund. Apart from kinesitherapy, we also perform procedures in the scope of hydrotherapy, physical therapy and elastic therapeutic tape application (kinesiotaping). We also involve orthotic specialists in the process of rehabilitation to select adequate orthopaedic equipment.
